Corvin Castle, also known as Hunyadi Castle or Hunedoara Castle, is a Gothic-Renaissance castle in Hunedoara, Romania. Built mainly in the fifteenth century and expanded over time, it is one of the largest and most visually striking medieval castles in Europe, with a long entrance bridge, high towers, an inner courtyard, and richly detailed stonework. Its dramatic silhouette has made it one of Romaniaโs best-known historic screen locations.
Corvin Castle appears in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011), The Nun (2018), Nosferatu (2024), BloodRayne (2005), and several older historical productions filmed in Romania. The castleโs own materials note a long screen history, while more recent production coverage specifically identifies it for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, The Nun, and Nosferatu.
In Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011), Corvin Castle is used as the monastery-fortress where Moreau warns the monks that Danny is in danger. The castleโs fortified exterior and elevated approach make it a convincing religious stronghold for one of the filmโs key action passages.
In The Nun (2018), Corvin Castle is used as one of the filmโs major gothic locations. Its medieval architecture and dark visual character fit naturally with the filmโs convent-and-demon imagery, and the castle is regularly identified as one of the productionโs most recognisable Romanian locations.
In Nosferatu (2024), Corvin Castle is used for the exterior of Count Orlokโs castle. Production designer Craig Lathrop said that he and Robert Eggers chose Corvin Castle for the exterior, while much of the rest of Orlokโs world was constructed separately.
In BloodRayne (2005), Corvin Castle was used as one of the filmโs medieval locations. The castleโs towers, bridge, and fortified walls suited the filmโs fantasy-horror setting and its stylised version of early modern Europe.
