Succession (2018–2023) is an American satirical drama series created by Jesse Armstrong for HBO. The series follows the Roy family, owners of the global media and entertainment conglomerate Waystar Royco, as the ageing patriarch Logan Roy and his four children fight for power, influence and control of the company. Brian Cox stars as Logan Roy, with Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin and Alan Ruck as Kendall, Shiv, Roman and Connor Roy. The series combines corporate power games, family trauma, dark comedy and political satire, presenting extreme wealth as both a fortress and a prison. Across its four seasons, Succession became one of the defining television dramas of its period, known for its sharp writing, cold visual style and brutal portrait of modern dynastic capitalism.

Succession was filmed mainly in New York, where the Roy family’s corporate empire and private lives are rooted in Manhattan’s world of media offices, luxury apartments, hotels, restaurants and political power. The series uses real New York locations such as the Woolworth Building, The Plaza Hotel, the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, The Shed at Hudson Yards and several high-end residential and office spaces to build the atmosphere around Waystar Royco. It also expands far beyond the city as the Roys’ business and family conflicts move through elite retreats, weddings, conferences and negotiations. Long Island and the Hamptons were used for several private estate sequences, while Oheka Castle in Huntington stood in for a Hungarian hunting lodge. The series also filmed in Scotland, England, Iceland, Croatia and Italy, including Korčula for the yacht-set second season finale and Tuscany for the later wedding material around Chiantishire. In the fourth season, Norway becomes one of the show’s most striking location shifts, with Juvet Landscape Hotel in Valldal, the Atlantic Ocean Road, Romsdalen Gondola and Eggen Restaurant used for the GoJo retreat connected to Lukas Matsson. These locations reflect the series’ central world: not ordinary travel, but the global geography of billionaire power, where private jets, castles, glass towers, remote hotels and coastal estates become the stage for family warfare and corporate negotiation.
