Tiffany Case’s House

Tiffany Case’s House is a historic canal house located at Reguliersgracht 36 in central Amsterdam, Netherlands. Built during the second half of the seventeenth century, the narrow residence is designed in the Dutch Classicist style and has a traditional neck gable decorated with festoons around the hoisting beam. The upper pediment is believed to have been altered during the nineteenth century. The building is protected as a Dutch national monument and forms part of the historic canal district surrounding Reguliersgracht and Keizersgracht.

Tiffany Case’s House has appeared in Diamonds Are Forever (1971), where its exterior represents the Amsterdam apartment of diamond smuggler Tiffany Case.

In Diamonds Are Forever (1971), James Bond travels to Tiffany Case’s apartment while posing as diamond smuggler Peter Franks. Bond drives along Reguliersgracht in Franks’ yellow Triumph Stag, crosses the bridge beside the house and stops outside number 36. He climbs the steps to the entrance, and the camera then moves upwards to establish Tiffany’s apartment on the third floor, where Bond meets her for the first time. The building appears again later at night when the real Peter Franks arrives and Bond encounters him outside before their confrontation. Only the exterior material was filmed at Reguliersgracht 36; the apartment interiors and the subsequent elevator fight were filmed elsewhere.
