The Monastery of the Holy Trinity is one of the six active Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Meteora, Greece. It is widely considered the most visually dramatic because it sits atop a slender, isolated pillar of rock rising 400 meters above the valley floor.
It is the most difficult monastery to reach. To enter, visitors must hike down a path and then climb approximately 140 to 150 steep steps carved directly into the rock face.
It gained international fame as a primary filming location for the 1981 James Bond movie, For Your Eyes Only. In the film, it served as the villain’s mountaintop retreat, “St. Cyril’s.” The climax was filmed perched on high rock pillars.
