Joker Stairs is the popular name for the long outdoor staircase at West 167th Street and Shakespeare Avenue in the Highbridge area of the Bronx, New York City. Before Joker, it was simply a local residential stairway connecting different street levels on the hillside. After the film’s release, however, it became one of the city’s most famous modern screen locations and a widely photographed site.

Joker Stairs appears in Joker (2019). The staircase is one of the film’s defining locations and became closely associated with Arthur Fleck’s transformation into the Joker.

In Joker (2019), the stairs appear twice in especially important scenes. Earlier in the film, Arthur is shown struggling up the staircase on his way home, which underlines the character’s exhaustion and isolation. Later, after his transformation, he returns in full Joker costume and dances down the steps in one of the film’s most famous sequences. That scene turned the staircase into one of the most recognisable film locations in New York.
