Tom’s Restaurant is a diner at 2880 Broadway, on the corner of West 112th Street in Morningside Heights, Manhattan. It has been family-run since the 1940s and is one of New York’s best-known television façades. Although the interior is that of a real neighbourhood diner, its greatest screen fame comes from its exterior, which became instantly recognisable through Seinfeld.
Tom’s Restaurant appears in Seinfeld (1989–1998), where it serves as the exterior of Monk’s Café, the regular meeting place for Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer. The real diner is in New York, while the interior restaurant scenes for the series were filmed on a studio set in Los Angeles.
In Seinfeld (1989–1998), Tom’s Restaurant is seen in the recurring exterior establishing shots of Monk’s Café. It appears throughout the series as one of its standard visual markers, even though the inside of Monk’s does not match the real diner. In early episodes, the neon “Tom’s” sign was more clearly visible, while later shots framed the building more tightly so the façade played more convincingly as the fictional café.

Three Twenty One
Three Twenty One appears in Seinfeld (1989–1998). It is used as the exterior of George’s apartment building during the earlier part of the series.

Guggenheim Museum
Guggenheim Museum appears in Men in Black, The International, Three Days of the Condor, Manhattan, Someone to Watch Over Me, and When in Rome.

Gray’s Papaya
Gray’s Papaya has appeared in several films, including Die Hard with a Vengeance, You’ve Got Mail, Down to Earth, and The Back-Up Plan.

Luke’s Bar & Grill
Luke’s Bar & Grill appears in Seinfeld (1989–1998). The exterior was reworked as Poppie’s, the restaurant connected to one of the show’s supporting characters.

The Comic Strip
The Comic Strip appears in The Jim Gaffigan Show (2015–2016) and Jerry Before Seinfeld (2017). In both, the club is used in connection with stand-up comedy.

La Boite en Bois
La Boite en Bois appears in Seinfeld (1989–1998). Rather than being limited to a single episode, the restaurant was used multiple times in the series.

Naumburg Bandshell
Naumburg Bandshell has appeared in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Barefoot in the Park, The April Fools, Hair, Kramer vs. Kramer, When Harry Met Sally…, and many more.

Tavern on the Green
Tavern on the Green has appeared in An Unmarried Woman, It’s My Turn, Arthur, Only When I Laugh, Ghostbusters, Heartburn, Wall Street, Beaches, and many more.

Empire Hotel
The Empire Hotel is used in Gossip Girl (2009–2012), Sex and the City 2 (2010), Power and Dexter: Resurrection (2025–).
