Bastard Brew & Food

Bastard Brew & Food is a bar and restaurant at Vegamótastígur 4 in central Reykjavík, Iceland. It opened in May 2018 in premises previously occupied by the long-running restaurant and bar Vegamót, which was extensively remodelled before reopening under the new name. Bastard was conceived as a brewpub, originally incorporating brewing equipment inside the building and serving its own beers alongside guest beers. The interior combines a large central bar with dark wood, leather seating and colourful artwork, while the restaurant serves a casual menu centred on dishes such as burgers, tacos, flatbreads and chicken. The brewing operation has changed since the early years, with its house beers now produced in collaboration with Icelandic brewery Malbygg, but the venue continues to operate as a craft-beer bar and restaurant.

Bastard Brew & Food has appeared in The Flight Attendant (2020–2022). The Reykjavík bar was used in the third episode of the second season, “The Reykjavík Ice Sculpture Festival Is Lovely This Time of Year”, during Cassie Bowden’s search through bars and other places she previously visited with Megan Briscoe. The episode was filmed in Reykjavík and other Icelandic locations in late 2021, with Bastard Brew & Food specifically credited as one of its filming locations.

In The Flight Attendant (2020–2022), Bastard Brew & Food appears in the season-two episode “The Reykjavík Ice Sculpture Festival Is Lovely This Time of Year”. After decoding a message that convinces her Megan is in danger, Cassie secretly travels to Reykjavík and begins revisiting bars that the two women frequented during earlier trips to Iceland. Bastard Brew & Food provides the microbrewery where Cassie approaches the bartender while searching for her friend. He initially asks whether she wants a drink, briefly tempting the newly sober Cassie, but she declines and explains that she is looking for someone. She shows him a photograph of Megan and says that they used to come there together before asking whether he has seen her. The scene then develops into a rapid montage of Cassie searching other Reykjavík bars and clubs without success. The episode credits Icelandic performer Sólmundur Hólm Sólmundarson specifically as the “Microbrewery Bartender”, while Bastard Brew & Food is listed by its real address among the episode’s filming locations. Cassie’s search eventually leads her away from these old drinking haunts and towards the fictional Blue Sincerely bar, where she finally finds Megan.
