Dexter: Resurrection (2025–) is an American crime drama series and a continuation of the Dexter franchise, following the original Dexter series and Dexter: New Blood. Michael C. Hall returns as Dexter Morgan, who survives the events of New Blood and travels to New York City in search of his son Harrison. The series moves Dexter into a new urban environment while still building on the central themes of the franchise: hidden identity, moral violence, family trauma and the danger of being exposed. David Zayas also returns as Angel Batista, while the new cast includes Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Krysten Ritter, Neil Patrick Harris and David Dastmalchian. By placing Dexter in New York, Resurrection changes the visual and social landscape of the series, moving away from Miami’s heat and Iron Lake’s isolation into a larger city where anonymity, surveillance and danger all work differently.
Dexter: Resurrection was filmed mainly in New York, with New York City and Yonkers forming the core of the production. The series uses Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and surrounding New York locations to establish Dexter’s new world, including the Empire Hotel on West 63rd Street, which serves as one of the show’s most recognisable locations. Filming also took place at Great Point Studios in Yonkers, with additional New York locations used for streets, interiors, waterfront areas and large public scenes. The production uses the city very differently from earlier Dexter stories: Miami gave the original series its bright coastal contrast between ordinary life and hidden violence, while Dexter: New Blood used cold, rural isolation. In Dexter: Resurrection, New York becomes a dense and unpredictable setting, with hotels, streets, industrial areas, gala spaces and crowded public locations helping to place Dexter inside a city where he can disappear, but never fully escape his past.
