Emanuel Vigeland Museum, also known as Emanuel Vigeland Museum and Mausoleum or Tomba Emmanuelle, is a museum and mausoleum in Oslo created by Emanuel Vigeland. The building is best known for its dark barrel-vaulted main chamber, where the fresco cycle Vita covers the walls and ceiling. Originally planned as a museum, it was transformed in the 1940s into Vigeland’s own mausoleum, giving the interior its unusually sombre and enclosed character.
In Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole (2026), the mausoleum is used as a meeting place for powerful figures, including police officers, who gather there wearing cloaks and masks. The location’s dark interior, echoing space, and enclosed vaulted chamber give the scene a distinctly secretive and ominous setting.
