The Witch House, also known as the Jonathan Corwin House, is a historic house museum located at 310 1/2 Essex Street in Salem, Massachusetts. Built during the seventeenth century, the timber-framed house was purchased in 1675 by Jonathan Corwin, a local magistrate who later served on the Court of Oyer and Terminer during the Salem witch trials of 1692. It is one of the few surviving buildings in Salem with a direct connection to the trials. The house was moved back from the street and restored to its presumed seventeenth-century appearance during the 1940s, and it is now operated as a museum devoted to colonial life and the witch trials.
The Witch House has appeared in Bewitched (1964–1972), during the seventh-season episode “The Salem Saga” (1970). The house is one of several authentic Salem landmarks shown during the series’ group of episodes set around a witches’ convention in the city. Hocus Pocus 2 has a similar house, but was build on a set in Chase Farm in Rhode Island.
In Bewitched (1964–1972), the Witch House appears in “The Salem Saga”, the third episode of season 7. Samantha and Darrin Stephens travel to Salem with Endora, combining their visit to a witches’ convention with sightseeing around the historic city. The Witch House is shown behind the three characters during the Salem material, identifying their surroundings through one of the city’s best-known buildings connected to the witch trials. The episode also uses other Salem locations, including the House of the Seven Gables and streets around the city.
