The Viper Room is a nightclub and live music venue at 8852 Sunset Boulevard on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California. It opened under that name in 1993 and quickly became one of the best-known music clubs in Los Angeles, associated with rock, alternative music, and the 1990s Hollywood nightlife scene. Before becoming The Viper Room in 1993, the same building operated under several earlier names, including Filthy McNasty’s and, in the 1980s, The Central.

The Viper Room appears in Valley Girl (1983), The Doors (1991), Be Cool (2005), Daisy Jones & the Six (2023), Walking the Edge (1985), and Entourage (2004–2011). In the earlier productions, the building appears under its pre-Viper Room identities rather than as the club later known worldwide under that name. The location has also appeared in documentaries and music-related productions centred on the club itself.

In The Doors (1991), the building appears as part of the film’s Sunset Strip and Los Angeles music-world setting. Its inclusion fits naturally with the club’s later place in rock history, even though the story itself is set before the Viper Room era.

In Be Cool (2005), The Viper Room is used directly as one of the film’s Los Angeles music-industry locations. The club functions as a real Sunset Strip venue within the story’s entertainment-business setting.

In Daisy Jones & the Six (2023), the building was transformed back into its earlier incarnation as Filthy McNasty’s for the series’ 1970s rock scenes. The production used the real location on the Strip and dressed it to match the period setting.

In Valley Girl (1983), the building is used for the club scenes on the Sunset Strip, when it was operating as The Central. It is the venue where the Plimsouls perform, making it one of the film’s key music-location stops in Hollywood. Randy (Nicolas Cage) and Julie Richman (Deborah Foreman) watch the band here shortly after meeting each other.

In Walking the Edge (1985), the site appears as The Central punk club, reflecting the building’s pre-Viper Room identity. That makes it part of the location’s screen history even before the club became famous under its current name.

In Entourage (2004–2011), The Viper Room appears in the series’ opening credits rather than as a regular story location. The credits move through a stylised version of Hollywood and Los Angeles, placing the names of the main cast members across well-known buildings, signs and streets. The Viper Room is used for Jerry Ferrara’s credit, with his name shown in large glowing neon letters above the club. The Viper Room is so strongly associated with the Sunset Strip and Hollywood nightlife, giving the opening sequence a recognisable piece of real Los Angeles while introducing the show’s celebrity-driven world.
