Skomakertjern is a small lake in Nordmarka, near Tryvannstua in Oslo, and one of the three small lakes often referred to as the Tryvann lakes. Its wooded setting and quiet shoreline give it the kind of isolated atmosphere that has made it memorable as a film location. Skiforeningen specifically notes that part of the filming for De dødes tjern was done there.

Skomakertjern appears in De dødes tjern (1958). The original film used three different lakes to represent the cursed lake from André Bjerke’s story, and Skomakertjern was one of those locations. It is the best-known of the three and is often identified with some of the film’s most iconic lake imagery.

In De dødes tjern (1958), Skomakertjern was used for part of the scenes around the haunted lake. It is especially associated with the film’s most recognisable exterior material by the water, giving visual form to the cursed pond at the centre of the story. Mind you that the vegetation has change a lot since 1958, so it might be hard to find the right spot on the lake. But you can find it on the north side of the lake, on the other side from the road.
