Damstredet is a cobbled street in central Oslo lined with preserved wooden houses from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Its older streetscape makes it one of the most visually distinctive historic streets in the city and one of the clearest surviving examples of old residential Oslo.
Damstredet appears in Lasse & Geir (1976), The Snowman (2017), and The Worst Person in the World (2021). Its preserved wooden houses and sloping street have made it a useful location for productions looking for a recognisable and visually distinctive part of Oslo.
In Lasse & Geir (1976), Damstredet is used in two connected street scenes. Lasse and Geir walk up the street and meet a woman who stops and says, โdet verker i lรฅra โฆ men det gรฅr da fremoverโ, before continuing their search for small change and checking the telephone box nearby. The location is easy to recognise because the protected buildings have changed very little since the 1970s. Even the small yellow โOLโ sign on the red house is still in place, and the pale pink building in the background remains much the same. The telephone box is gone, however, and a small pool now occupies the spot where it once stood.
In The Snowman (2017), Damstredet was used during the Oslo shoot and was dressed with artificial snow for the filmโs winter setting.
In The Worst Person in the World (2021), Damstredet is one of the older Oslo streets used as part of the filmโs city setting.
