Star Wars: A New Hope (originally released as Star Wars in 1977) is a seminal epic space opera film written and directed by George Lucas. As the first installment in the original trilogy (and Episode IV of the saga), it follows farm boy Luke Skywalker as he joins forces with Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo, and Chewbacca to rescue Princess Leia from Darth Vader and destroy the Empire’s planet-destroying weapon, the Death Star.
Star Wars: A New Hope was primarily filmed at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire, England, with extensive on-location shooting in Tunisia (Tatooine scenes) and Tikal National Park in Guatemala (Yavin 4). Additional desert scenes were filmed in Death Valley National Park, USA.
