Someone to Watch Over Me is a 1987 American romantic thriller directed by Ridley Scott and starring Tom Berenger, Mimi Rogers and Lorraine Bracco. The film follows New York police detective Mike Keegan, who is assigned to protect wealthy socialite Claire Gregory after she witnesses a murder. What begins as a witness-protection assignment gradually turns into a dangerous emotional entanglement, giving the film a noir-like mix of desire, class tension and urban paranoia. Although it never became one of Scottโ€™s most famous films, it is often remembered for its sleek visual style and for the way it turns a fairly intimate thriller into something glossy, moody and emotionally conflicted.

The film was shot in both New York and California, using real Manhattan locations for much of its upper-class city atmosphere before moving to studio work on the West Coast. Documented New York locations include the Bergdorf Goodman building, Central Park, the Guggenheim Museum and various streets on the Upper East Side, which helped shape Claire Gregoryโ€™s elegant and insulated world. The production then moved to Burbank Studios to film the interiors of Claireโ€™s apartment and Mike Keeganโ€™s Queens home, while nightclub interiors were shot on the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach. The contrast between polished Manhattan locations and more controlled studio-built interiors fits the film well, since so much of the story depends on the collision between wealth, domestic life and danger.
