The Omen is a 1976 supernatural horror film directed by Richard Donner and starring Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, David Warner and Billie Whitelaw. The story follows American diplomat Robert Thorn, who secretly adopts a newborn after his own child dies at birth, without telling his wife. Several years later, as the boy Damien grows up in London, a series of increasingly disturbing events forces Thorn to confront the possibility that his son is not just dangerous, but the Antichrist. The film became one of the defining horror titles of the 1970s, combining religious dread, family tragedy and political privilege with a cold, elegant sense of menace.

The film was shot across England, with additional work in Italy and Jerusalem, and its English locations are a major part of its atmosphere. London provides the filmโ€™s political and diplomatic setting, including Grosvenor Square as the American embassy, while the Thorn family home was filmed at Pyrford Court in Surrey. Guildford Cathedral in Surrey appears in one of the filmโ€™s most famous public scenes, when Damien violently resists entering the church, and Windsor Safari Park was used for the unnerving animal sequence. Rather than relying on gothic castles or artificial horror settings, the film places evil inside embassies, country houses, churches and respectable English landscapes, which makes its horror feel all the more unsettling.
