Silver Skillet

Silver Skillet is a classic diner on 14th Street in Atlanta, close to Georgia Tech. Opened in the mid-20th century, the restaurant has kept much of its old diner character, with counter seating, booths, vintage details and a lived-in atmosphere that feels difficult to recreate artificially. This makes it especially useful for films and television series that need a real American diner with history, texture and everyday credibility.

The restaurant has appeared in several films and television productions, including “Remember the Titans” (2000), “Trouble with the Curve” (2012), Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013), “The Founder” (2016), “Ozark” (2017–2022), “First Man” (2018) and Good Girls (2018–2021). In most productions, Silver Skillet is used because it already has the look of an old neighbourhood restaurant, but in “Good Girls” it becomes more than a background diner.

In Good Girls (2018–2021), Silver Skillet is used as the diner where Ruby Hill works during the first season. The restaurant appears in several episodes and becomes part of Ruby’s everyday life outside the criminal scheme she is drawn into with Beth and Annie. The ordinary, slightly worn diner setting works well for the series because it contrasts with the increasingly dangerous choices the women make. Ruby is not introduced as a professional criminal, but as a working woman trying to hold her family together, and Silver Skillet helps ground that side of her character.

In “Remember the Titans” (2000), Silver Skillet is used as one of the film’s diner locations. The restaurant’s preserved interior fits the early 1970s setting, giving the scene the feeling of a real local hangout rather than a dressed studio set. Its booths, counter and old-fashioned atmosphere match the film’s world of football, community tension and everyday public spaces.

In “Trouble with the Curve” (2012), Silver Skillet appears as part of the film’s Georgia setting. The baseball drama follows an ageing scout and his daughter, and the diner’s old-school atmosphere fits the film’s interest in tradition, routine and the kinds of places where people talk, argue and reconnect away from the stadium.

In Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013), Silver Skillet is used for its retro look. The diner fits the film’s exaggerated late-1970s and early-1980s media world, giving the comedy an authentic period-flavoured restaurant setting while still allowing the humour to remain broad and absurd.

In “The Founder” (2016), Silver Skillet fits naturally into a story about American food culture and the rise of fast-food business. The restaurant’s mid-century character makes it suitable for a film built around diners, roadside restaurants and the changing way Americans ate and did business.

In “Ozark” (2017–2022), Silver Skillet is used as a diner location during the first season. The series often places criminal activity in ordinary, believable settings, and the restaurant’s unfussy interior helps create that everyday realism. It feels like the kind of place where people could meet without drawing attention, which suits the show’s quieter moments of pressure and negotiation.

In “First Man” (2018), Silver Skillet appears as part of the film’s period world. The preserved diner interior works well for a story set in the 1960s, where real locations with the right age and texture help support the film’s grounded, understated approach to Neil Armstrong’s life and the space programme.
