Predjama Castle is one of Sloveniaโ€™s most extraordinary historic landmarks, dramatically built into the mouth of a cave in the karst cliffs near Postojna. Parts of the fortress date back to the Middle Ages, and its setting is so unusual that it almost looks unreal, with stone walls seeming to grow directly out of the rock face. The castle is closely tied to the legend of the knight Erazem of Predjama, who supposedly used the cave system behind the fortress to resist a siege. Today it is one of Sloveniaโ€™s best-known attractions and is often described as the worldโ€™s largest cave castle.

As a filming location, Predjama Castle is best known for its appearance in the 1986 Jackie Chan adventure film Armour of God. Official Slovenian tourism sources also note that the castle has been used for numerous documentaries and other screen productions, but Armour of God is the most clearly documented feature film associated with the site.

In Armour of God, Predjama Castle appears in the filmโ€™s memorable opening section, where Jackie Chanโ€™s character Asian Hawk infiltrates a fortress-like hideout connected to the โ€œcriminal monks.โ€ The castleโ€™s cave-built architecture gave the sequence a striking medieval-fantasy atmosphere, making it an ideal setting for the filmโ€™s mix of treasure-hunt adventure and action comedy. Predjamaโ€™s corridors and fortress exterior help sell the idea of a remote, secretive stronghold, and the location became one of the filmโ€™s most visually distinctive European settings.
