Philadelphia Museum of Art Steps are the grand east entrance steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. Built as part of the museumโ€™s monumental neoclassical design, the staircase became one of the most famous film locations in the United States after it was used in Rocky. The steps are now widely known as the โ€œRocky Stepsโ€ and have become one of Philadelphiaโ€™s best-known screen landmarks.

The steps appear most famously in Rocky (1976), and later returned in several other Rocky and Creed films. Philadelphia tourism material notes that the staircase was featured in every Rocky film except Rocky IV, and it also identifies the steps as part of the Creed filmsโ€™ location history. The steps also appear in Shazam! (2019), where the location is used with an explicit Rocky reference.

In Rocky (1976), the steps are used in the filmโ€™s most iconic training sequence, when Rocky Balboa runs to the top of the staircase and raises his arms in triumph while facing the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. That scene turned the museum steps into a lasting symbol of perseverance and victory.

In Rocky II (1979), Rocky III (1982), Rocky V (1990), and Rocky Balboa (2006), the steps return as part of the characterโ€™s continuing connection to Philadelphia. They function as a recurring visual link to Rockyโ€™s rise and to the city itself, even though the original 1976 run remains the defining use of the location.

In Creed (2015) and Creed II (2018), the steps continue that legacy within Adonis Creedโ€™s story. They are part of the larger Rocky and Creed geography of Philadelphia and serve as one of the clearest visual bridges between the original series and the newer films.

In Shazam! (2019), Billy Batson and Freddy Freeman sit on the museum steps overlooking the city. The film directly acknowledges the locationโ€™s Rocky connection, using the site as both a Philadelphia landmark and a piece of film history.
