Edmund A. Gray Co.

Edmund A. Gray Co. is an industrial manufacturing and warehouse complex located at 2277 East 15th Street in Los Angeles, California. The company was founded in 1910 and specialises in manufacturing pipe nipples and distributing pipe fittings, valves and related products. The long brick building stands in an industrial area southeast of Downtown Los Angeles, with its large painted company name forming one of its most recognisable exterior features.

Edmund A. Gray Co. has appeared in A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989) and Veronica Mars (2014). The building has been used both as a fictionalised version of the real company and as the background for scenes set in an industrial part of the fictional town of Neptune.

In A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989), Edmund A. Gray Co. appears as the workplace of Mark Gray and the family business operated by his father. Alice Johnson and Yvonne Miller visit Mark at the warehouse after the death of Greta Gibson, finding him among the industrial racks and work areas inside the building. Alice tries to convince the others that Freddy Krueger has returned, while Mark struggles with Greta’s death before agreeing to help investigate Freddy’s past. The warehouse setting is also connected to Mark’s comic-book artwork and the later nightmare sequence in which Freddy draws him into a black-and-white comic-book world.

In Veronica Mars (2014), the Edmund A. Gray Co. building and its industrial street frontage appear during a scene in which Keith and Veronica Mars encounter members of the Neptune Sheriff’s Department. Keith explains that a developer has bought property in the area and that the deputies are driving away people considered undesirable. When the officers confront two young men and accuse them of being taggers, Keith records the incident on his phone and threatens to publish the footage, forcing the deputies to release them.
