Blair Place is a short, sloping road in the historic centre of Blairstown, New Jersey, connecting Millbrook Road with Main Street. At its lower end, the road passes the Old Mill, a historic stone building dating from the early nineteenth century, with a distinctive series of arches added along its Main Street frontage in 1903. The nearby crossing over Blair Creek and the surrounding buildings form part of the Blairstown Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. Blair Place is one of two small hillside streets in this part of town that became recognisable filming locations through the Friday the 13th franchise, the other being Old Academy Drive, a short distance farther west along Main Street.
Blair Place has appeared in Friday the 13th (1980) and Crystal Lake (2026–). Both productions use the downhill approach towards Main Street as part of a young woman’s arrival in the fictional town of Crystal Lake, with the television series deliberately recreating the original sequence more than four decades later.
In Friday the 13th (1980), directed by Sean S. Cunningham, Blair Place appears near the beginning of the film as Annie Phillips (Robbi Morgan) makes her way into town on her journey to Camp Crystal Lake, where she has been hired as a cook. Carrying her backpack, Annie approaches the town centre along Blair Place, towards the historic Old Mill and passing beneath its stone arches on Main Street. The sequence is particularly interesting when compared with the town’s actual geography. Another shot shows Annie descending nearby Old Academy Drive, which also leads downhill towards Main Street, but from a different direction. Although the editing presents her journey as a continuous walk through town, she effectively approaches the same main road twice from two separate streets. The geographical inconsistency is barely noticeable in the finished film, as the individual shots combine to establish the fictional town of Crystal Lake.
In Crystal Lake (2026–), the Friday the 13th prequel series, Blair Place appears in the fourth episode, “A New Beginning”, during a sequence deliberately modelled on Annie’s arrival in the original film. Willow (Oona Roche), a young hippie travelling to Camp Crystal Lake, walks down the same road towards Main Street, following a route that closely reproduces the earlier sequence. The filmmakers returned to Blairstown and recreated the original camera compositions, with the hillside, surrounding buildings and approach towards the Old Mill remaining remarkably similar despite the 46 years separating the productions. Willow subsequently continues through town to Hartung’s Diner, just as Annie had stopped at the local establishment to ask for directions in the original film. Series creator Brad Caleb Kane confirmed that the sequence was intentionally recreated shot for shot in the same town, preserving the visual continuity of Annie’s journey, including its unusual geography.
