Michael J. Fox (born 9 June 1961) is a Canadian-American actor, producer, and advocate best known as one of the defining screen stars of the 1980s and 1990s. He became widely famous as Alex P. Keaton on the sitcom Family Ties (1982โ€“1989), then reached global icon status as Marty McFly in the Back to the Future trilogy (1985โ€“1990). Fox also led popular films such as Teen Wolf (1985) and The Secret of My Success (1987), and later earned major praise for television work, including Spin City (1996โ€“2000) and acclaimed guest roles in series such as The Good Wife.

In 1991, Fox was diagnosed with Parkinsonโ€™s disease, a fact he later shared publicly. He became one of the most prominent figures in Parkinsonโ€™s advocacy through the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which has played a major role in funding research and raising awareness. He has continued to write, produce, and appear on screen selectively, while remaining widely admired for both his performances and his impact beyond acting.
