Edgar Wright (born 18 April 1974) is an English filmmaker known for highly kinetic, detail-packed directing that blends sharp comedy with precise visual storytelling. He first became widely recognised through the cult TV sitcom Spaced (1999–2001), which he directed and co-created with Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes, establishing many of the stylistic trademarks he later brought to film: rapid editing, visual punchlines, and an energetic use of music.
Wright broke through in cinema with Shaun of the Dead (2004), followed by Hot Fuzz (2007) and The World’s End (2013), completing the “Three Flavours Cornetto” trilogy—comedies celebrated for their genre savvy and meticulous craft. He later directed Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), a visually inventive adaptation with a strong cult following, and Baby Driver (2017), which was praised for action sequences choreographed tightly to its soundtrack and earned him an Academy Award nomination for Original Screenplay. In the 2020s he expanded into more psychological territory with Last Night in Soho (2021), while continuing to develop new projects as both a director and producer.
Baby Driver
Baby Driver is set in Atlanta and was shot in and around the city, making strong use of its downtown streets, highways, car parks and modern urban architecture.
Hot Fuzz
Hot Fuzz was shot primarily in Wells, Somerset, Edgar Wright’s home city, and the place is used so thoroughly that it becomes one of the film’s main characters.
