Roughnecks is a bar and grill on Depot Street in Rio Vista, Texas. The small-town bar has a rustic Texas character, with a casual dining room, bar area and local atmosphere that make it well suited to a modern western drama setting. In Dutton Ranch, the real bar is transformed into Split Heart Bar, a fictional Rio Paloma watering hole. The production kept much of the real barโs interior and exterior look, while adding custom signage and set dressing to make it fit into the world of Beth Dutton and Rip Wheelerโs new life in Texas.
Roughnecks appears in Dutton Ranch, the Yellowstone spin-off and sequel series about Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler starting over in Texas. The series is set around the fictional South Texas town of Rio Paloma, but much of the production was filmed in North Texas, including Rio Vista, Ferris, Weatherford, Cleburne, Boyd, Fort Worth, Dallas and Mineral Wells. Roughnecks is used as Split Heart Bar, which becomes one of the recurring social spaces in the series. The bar functions as the kind of local meeting place that the Yellowstone universe often uses: a place for drinking, music, conversation, tension and community outside the ranch itself.
In Dutton Ranch (2026), Roughnecks appears as Split Heart Bar. Beth discovers the bar while driving around Rio Paloma, and it gradually becomes one of the places where the characters go to step away from the pressure of ranch life. The bar hosts live music and gives the series a local Texas gathering spot, connecting Beth, Rip and the people around them to the town rather than only to the ranch. The production uses the real Roughnecks Bar-Grill in Rio Vista for the setting, with added Split Heart Bar signage turning the existing location into a fictional bar inside the Yellowstone universe. The location fits the seriesโ move from Montana to Texas, giving Dutton Ranch a new kind of social centre rooted in small-town Texas bar culture.
