Spain has been one of Europe’s most important filming countries for decades, offering everything from historic cities and castles to deserts, mountains, beaches and modern urban locations. The Tabernas Desert in AlmerÃa became especially famous through westerns and adventure films, including “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”, “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”. Seville’s Plaza de España appeared as Naboo in “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones”, while the Royal Alcázar of Seville was used as Dorne in “Game of Thrones”. Other Spanish locations have also become widely recognisable on screen, including San Juan de Gaztelugatxe as Dragonstone in “Game of Thrones”, Barcelona in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and Madrid in films such as “The Bourne Ultimatum”. With its varied landscapes, strong production infrastructure and long cinema history, Spain remains one of the most versatile filming locations in Europe.
