Portugal has been used in a wide range of international and Portuguese productions, with Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais and the Atlantic coast among its most recognisable screen locations. Lisbon’s streets, squares and riverfront have appeared in films such as “Night Train to Lisbon”, “Lisbon Story”, “The Russia House” and “Fast X”, while the Cascais and Estoril area is closely associated with the James Bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. Sintra has also attracted productions with its palaces, forests and romantic architecture, including “The Ninth Gate” and “House of Gucci”. Other parts of Portugal, from Porto and the Douro region to the Algarve, Madeira and the Azores, have been used for both film and television. With its historic cities, dramatic coastline, Atlantic light and varied landscapes, Portugal has become an increasingly popular filming country in Europe.
