Country

Country: Jordan

Jordan has become one of the Middle East’s most recognisable filming countries, especially because of the desert landscapes of Wadi Rum and the ancient rock-cut city of Petra. Wadi Rum has been used for large-scale productions such as “Lawrence of Arabia”, “The Martian”, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”, “Prometheus” and “Dune”, often standing in for remote deserts, alien planets or vast historical landscapes. Petra is closely associated with “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”, where Al-Khazneh, the famous Treasury, appears as the entrance to the temple housing the Holy Grail. Amman, Aqaba, the Dead Sea area and other parts of Jordan have also been used in international productions, giving the country a strong screen identity built around desert scenery, ancient architecture and dramatic natural landscapes.
