Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011) is an American superhero horror-action film directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, based on the Marvel Comics character Ghost Rider. Nicolas Cage returns as Johnny Blaze, who is now hiding in Eastern Europe and trying to suppress the demonic force inside him. When the monk Moreau asks for his help protecting a boy named Danny from the devilish Roarke, Blaze is drawn back into the battle between human weakness, supernatural power and damnation. The film also stars Idris Elba, Ciarán Hinds, Violante Placido, Johnny Whitworth and Christopher Lambert. Compared with the 2007 Ghost Rider, Spirit of Vengeance has a rougher and more chaotic visual style, with handheld camerawork, heavy digital effects, religious imagery, ruined landscapes and a more aggressive version of the flaming-skull anti-hero.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance was filmed mainly in Romania, with additional filming in Turkey. Castel Film Studios near Bucharest served as the production’s main base, while Romania provided many of the film’s roads, industrial areas, castles, quarries and mountain landscapes. Corvin Castle in Hunedoara is one of the most recognisable Romanian locations connected to the film, giving the story a strong Gothic fortress setting. The production also used places such as Sibiu, Fărcășești in Gorj County, Rovinari, Lake Vidraru and the Transfăgărășan mountain road, with the Romanian landscape helping create the film’s mixture of medieval atmosphere, rural isolation and heavy action. Turkey was used for some of the film’s most visually distinctive exterior scenes. Cappadocia provides the rocky, ancient-looking landscape around Moreau’s sanctuary, while Pamukkale and the ruins of Hierapolis are connected to the ceremonial amphitheatre material near the end of the film. The locations give Spirit of Vengeance a very different identity from the first Ghost Rider film: instead of the American carnival, desert and city-world of the 2007 film, this sequel builds its atmosphere from Eastern European roads, castles, monasteries, industrial sites, mountain scenery and Turkish rock formations.

Corvin Castle
Corvin Castle appears in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, The Nun, Nosferatu, BloodRayne, and several older historical productions filmed in Romania.
