Clint Eastwood (born 31 May 1930) is an American actor, director, and producer whose career spans more than seven decades and has left a major mark on both popular cinema and prestige filmmaking. He first became widely known through television in the late 1950s, then rose to international fame in the 1960s as the โMan with No Nameโ in Sergio Leoneโs โDollarsโ trilogy, helping define the modern screen western. In the 1970s he became an iconic figure of American crime cinema as Inspector Harry Callahan in the Dirty Harry films, cementing a tough, minimalist screen persona that became central to his public image.
From the 1970s onwards, Eastwood increasingly established himself behind the camera, directing films across a wide range of genres and often favouring clean, economical storytelling. His work as a director includes acclaimed titles such as Unforgiven (1992) and Million Dollar Baby (2004), both of which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, with Eastwood also winning Best Director for each. Other notable films he directed include Mystic River (2003), Letters from Iwo Jima (2006), Changeling (2008), Gran Torino (2008), American Sniper (2014), and Richard Jewell (2019). Known for a disciplined work ethic and a distinctive, understated style, Eastwood remains one of the most influential and enduring figures in modern film.
