Tobey Maguire (born 27 June 1975) is an American actor and producer best known for playing Peter Parker in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy (2002–2007), a role that helped define modern superhero cinema with a more earnest, emotionally grounded take on the character. He began acting as a child and gained attention in the 1990s with supporting roles in films such as This Boy’s Life (1993) and Pleasantville (1998), before breaking through as a leading actor with The Cider House Rules (1999).

Maguire earned strong critical recognition for his performance in Seabiscuit (2003) and later appeared in films including Wonder Boys, Brothers, The Great Gatsby (2013), and Pawn Sacrifice (2014). In addition to acting, he has worked as a producer on several projects. While he has acted more selectively in recent years, he remains closely associated with a landmark era of blockbuster filmmaking and with a screen persona built around sincerity, vulnerability, and quiet intensity.
