Sissy Spacek (born 25 December 1949) is an American actress and singer whose work has made her one of the most respected performers of her generation. Raised in Texas, she began her career in the early 1970s and quickly gained attention through a mix of independent films and major studio projects. Her breakthrough came with Carrie (1976), where her vulnerable, haunting performance became one of the defining portrayals in modern horror and established her as a major screen presence.

Spacek went on to build an acclaimed career in drama, often playing complex women shaped by hardship, ambition, and quiet resilience. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Coal Minerโ€™s Daughter (1980), portraying country singer Loretta Lynn, and received multiple further Oscar nominations for films including Missing, The River, Crimes of the Heart, and In the Bedroom. In later years she has continued to work steadily in film and television, earning praise for both leading and supporting roles, and remaining a benchmark for naturalistic, emotionally truthful acting.
