Ron Howard (born 1 March 1954) is an American director, producer, and actor whose career spans more than six decades in film and television. He first became famous as a child actor, playing Opie Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show, and later starred as Richie Cunningham on the long-running sitcom Happy Days. After moving behind the camera, Howard established himself as a reliable and highly successful mainstream director with films such as Splash (1984), Cocoon (1985), and Parenthood (1989), and he became especially known for combining strong character work with big, accessible storytelling.

In the 1990s and 2000s he directed a string of major hits across different genres, including Apollo 13 (1995), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), A Beautiful Mind (2001), and Cinderella Man (2005). A Beautiful Mind won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and Howard received the Oscar for Best Director. He later directed high-profile adaptations such as The Da Vinci Code (2006) and its sequels, as well as films like Frost/Nixon (2008), Rush (2013), and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). Alongside directing, Howard has been a significant producer through Imagine Entertainment, helping develop and back a wide range of film and television projects, and he remains one of the industryโ€™s most enduring and versatile creative figures.
