Christopher Lee (27 May 1922 โ€“ 7 June 2015) was an English actor whose towering presence, distinctive voice, and aristocratic screen persona made him one of the most recognisable figures in 20th-century cinema. After serving in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, he pursued acting and spent years in smaller roles before becoming a star in the late 1950s through Hammer Films. His portrayal of Count Dracula, beginning with Horror of Dracula (1958), helped define the modern image of the vampire on screen and established him as a leading name in gothic horror.

Lee steadily broadened his range beyond horror, appearing in major international productions across decades. His filmography includes The Wicker Man, The Man with the Golden Gun (as Bond villain Francisco Scaramanga), and later, blockbuster franchises where he reached a new generation of audiences as Saruman in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, and Count Dooku in Star Wars. Known for his professionalism and versatility, he acted well into his later years and became a beloved cultural icon. Late in life he also pursued a long-standing passion for music, releasing heavy metal projects that reflected his enthusiasm for dramatic storytelling in every form.
