Ben Kingsley (born 31 December 1943) is an English actor known for a career of highly varied, often transformative performances across film, television, and theatre. Trained on stage and shaped by classical theatre traditions, he became internationally famous with his breakthrough portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi in Gandhi (1982), a role that won him the Academy Award for Best Actor and established him as one of Britainโ€™s most respected screen performers.

Kingsley has since built a filmography that moves easily between prestige drama and mainstream cinema. His notable films include Schindlerโ€™s List, Bugsy, Sexy Beast, House of Sand and Fog (which earned him another Oscar nomination), and Hugo, as well as prominent franchise roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Known for intensity, control, and a willingness to disappear into characters, he has remained a major figure in international film for decades, equally convincing as a sympathetic lead, a morally complex outsider, or a quietly terrifying antagonist.
