Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) is an American superhero film directed by Jon Watts and the first solo Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tom Holland stars as Peter Parker, a Queens teenager trying to balance ordinary high school life with his secret identity as Spider-Man after his appearance in Captain America: Civil War. Under the distant guidance of Tony Stark, Peter is desperate to prove himself as an Avenger, but his attempts to stop Adrian Toomes, also known as the Vulture, force him to face a more local and personal kind of threat. The film combines high school comedy, superhero action and a coming-of-age story, giving Spider-Man a lighter, street-level place within the wider MCU.
The film was shot across several locations in the United States, with Atlanta and the surrounding Georgia area standing in for much of New York. Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayetteville was used as the production base, and Atlanta locations included Grady High School, Downtown Atlanta, the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Piedmont Park, the Georgia World Congress Center and the West End neighbourhood. New York locations were also used for exterior material, including the Staten Island Ferry and Coney Island, while Washington, D.C. appears in the school trip sequence built around the Washington Monument.
