Pastor Jarman kommer hjem (1958) is a Norwegian crime drama directed and written by Arne Skouen, starring Henki Kolstad as the seaman’s pastor Jarman. The film follows Jarman as he returns to Oslo by ship from New Orleans and becomes involved in a mystery after a dying sailor asks him to deliver a gold watch to a woman named Lilly and to help a man known only as Makken. Back in Norway, the trail leads Jarman into Oslo’s harbour underworld, where an old murder, fear and guilt gradually come to the surface. The film combines crime drama with psychological tension and is one of Skouen’s lesser-known but atmospheric Oslo films.

Several scenes in Pastor Jarman kommer hjem were filmed around Vippetangen in Oslo, where the harbour setting plays an important part in the film’s atmosphere. The area appears with recognisable post-war harbour details, including the large grain silo and the old fish reception buildings. One of the important locations in the film is Kafé Vippetangen, a harbour café that later disappeared when the area changed. The tram tracks that once curved around the café are also gone today, but they can still be seen in the film and help place the scenes firmly in the older Vippetangen landscape.
