Olsenbanden – Operasjon Egon is a 1969 Norwegian crime comedy directed by Knut Bohwim and the first film in the Norwegian Olsenbanden series. Based on the Danish Olsen-banden format, it introduces Egon Olsen, Benny Fransen and Kjell Jensen as a small-time criminal trio whose plans are always more ambitious than their abilities. After Egon is released from prison, he has a new scheme: to steal the valuable Kaiseraufsatz, a golden art object from the Hohenzollern collection that is being exhibited in Oslo. The film is rougher and more adult in tone than the later Norwegian Olsenbanden films, but it already contains many of the elements that would define the series: Egon’s detailed plans, Benny’s chaotic energy, Kjell’s family troubles, Valborg’s domestic interruptions and the use of Oslo as a comic criminal playground.
The film was shot mainly in and around Oslo, giving the first Norwegian Olsenbanden film a very different local identity from the Danish original. The old Oslo Prison, better known as Botsfengselet or Botsen, establishes the recurring image of Egon leaving prison at the start of the story, while the gang’s seedy early meeting place, Café Lefsa, was filmed at Normannsgate 44 at Kampen. The plot also moves through Oslo’s streets, exhibition spaces and working-class urban environments before expanding toward roads, police lots and escape routes out of the city. One listed production location is Mengshol in what was then Hedmark, which fits the film’s movement away from central Oslo during the later stages of Egon’s failed getaway. Together, these locations make Operasjon Egon feel like a late-1960s Oslo time capsule, with the capital’s older neighbourhoods, prison surroundings and slightly worn urban texture becoming part of the film’s criminal comedy identity.
Botsen
Botsen is best known from the "Olsenbanden" film series, where it appears as the prison Egon Olsen is released from at the start of many of the films.
