Luke’s Bar & Grill is a neighbourhood bar and restaurant on Third Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, at 1394 Third Avenue between 79th and 80th Streets. It has the kind of straightforward New York pub exterior that made it useful as a screen location, especially for productions looking for an ordinary Manhattan streetscape rather than a landmark building.
Luke’s Bar & Grill appears in Seinfeld (1989–1998). In the series, the exterior was reworked as Poppie’s, the Italian restaurant connected to one of the show’s recurring supporting characters. A location write-up for Seinfeld identifies 1394 Third Avenue as the real exterior used for Poppie’s, and a separate New York food-site note specifically points out the Seinfeld cameo at Luke’s in “The Pie” (1994).
In Seinfeld (1989–1998), Luke’s Bar & Grill is used as the exterior of Poppie’s. The location is especially tied to “The Couch” (1994), where Kramer and Poppie plan their make-your-own-pizza restaurant, and it is also noted in connection with “The Pie” (1994), where the same storefront was reused for Poppie’s.
