The Hewitt House is a rural house on County Road 336 outside Granger, Texas. The large two-storey house stands in open countryside and is best known as the home of the Hewitt family in the 2000s Texas Chainsaw Massacre films. It should not be confused with the original Sawyer family house from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), which was originally filmed near Round Rock and later moved to Kingsland. The Hewitt House belongs to the remake timeline, where its isolated setting, long approach, surrounding fields and weathered exterior helped create the main family home for Leatherface, Sheriff Hoyt and the rest of the Hewitt family. Note that it is not allowed to trespass the property and it is strictly under surveillance with cameras.
The Hewitt House appears in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006). In both films, the house functions as the central family home and one of the main horror locations, connected to the kidnapping, torture and murder carried out by the Hewitt family.
In The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), The Hewitt House appears as the home of the Hewitt family. After Erin, Kemper, Morgan, Andy and Pepper become stranded in rural Texas, the house becomes the centre of the filmโs nightmare. Kemper enters the house looking for help and is killed by Leatherface, setting off the chain of events that pulls the rest of the group into the Hewittsโ world. The house is used for several of the filmโs most important horror scenes, including the interiors where victims are trapped, chased and taken deeper into the familyโs hidden violence. The exterior and surrounding land also help define the filmโs isolated rural setting, separating the characters from any normal sense of safety or escape.
In The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006), The Hewitt House returns as the family home in the prequel story. The film shows the Hewitt family before the events of the 2003 remake and uses the house to develop the background of Leatherface, Sheriff Hoyt and the familyโs descent into murder. Several scenes take place around the house and its yard, including material with Hoyt and the family before the victims are brought fully into their control. The house again functions as the centre of the Hewitt familyโs power, with its rooms and surrounding property becoming the place where the film connects family history, captivity and violence.
