Good Girls is an American crime comedy-drama series created by Jenna Bans, which ran from 2018 to 2021. The series follows Beth, Ruby and Annie, three suburban Michigan mothers who are pushed by debt, family pressure and frustration into robbing a supermarket, only to find themselves pulled deeper into money laundering, gang crime and FBI attention. Starring Christina Hendricks, Retta and Mae Whitman, the show mixes domestic comedy, suburban desperation and crime-thriller tension, turning ordinary middle-class spaces into places of danger, bad decisions and moral compromise.
Although the series is set in suburban Michigan, it was not mainly filmed there. The first season was shot in the Atlanta area, with production based at Third Rail Studios in Doraville, Georgia, before the show moved to Los Angeles from season 2 onwards. That gives Good Girls a slightly disguised geography: the story belongs to the Detroit suburbs, with its supermarkets, family homes, schools, diners and strip-mall spaces, but much of that world was created through Georgia and Southern California locations. Los Angeles later became especially important, with Universal Studios and surrounding city locations used to continue the seriesโ suburban-crime atmosphere. The result is a show that feels rooted in everyday American suburbia rather than one clearly identifiable real city, which suits a story where ordinary homes, shops and car parks gradually become part of a criminal underworld.
