Robert De Niro (born 17 August 1943) is an American actor, producer, and director widely regarded as one of the greatest screen performers of his era. Emerging from the New York film scene in the early 1970s, he became closely associated with director Martin Scorsese, building a run of landmark films that helped define modern American cinema. De Niro is known for intense preparation and transformative character work, moving between volatile criminals, vulnerable outsiders, and sharply observed comedic roles with unusual ease.

He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Godfather Part II (1974) as the young Vito Corleone, and later won Best Actor for Raging Bull (1980), one of his most celebrated performances. His filmography includes Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Once Upon a Time in America, The Untouchables, Goodfellas, Heat, Casino, and The Irishman, as well as successful comedies such as Meet the Parents. Beyond acting, he co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival and has remained an active creative force for decades, continuing to take on prominent roles in both prestige projects and mainstream films.
