Sylvester Stallone (born 6 July 1946) is an American actor, screenwriter, and director best known for creating and starring in two of the most enduring franchises in modern popular cinema: Rocky and Rambo. Raised in New York, he spent years struggling to break into the industry before writing Rocky (1976) and insisting on playing the lead. The film became a cultural phenomenon, won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and turned Stallone into an international star almost overnight.

He went on to shape Rocky into a long-running saga, returning as boxer Rocky Balboa across multiple sequels and later expanding the universe with the Creed films as both actor and producer. In parallel, he created another signature character in John Rambo, beginning with First Blood (1982), establishing a tougher, more politically charged brand of action storytelling that became central to his screen identity. Across the 1980s and 1990s, Stallone was one of Hollywoodโ€™s defining action leads, starring in films such as Cobra, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, and The Expendables series.

Beyond acting, Stallone has consistently worked as a writer and director, and he is often credited with a rare kind of auteur-like control within mainstream action cinema. Over several decades, his career has combined massive box-office success with a strong personal stamp, making him one of the most recognisable figures in late-20th-century and contemporary film culture.
