Bruce Willis (born 19 March 1955) is an American actor and producer who became one of the defining action stars of the late 20th century, known for mixing tough-guy credibility with a dry, self-aware sense of humour. He first rose to fame on television in the 1980s as private detective David Addison in Moonlighting, a role that highlighted both his comic timing and leading-man charisma. His breakthrough as a film star came with Die Hard (1988), where his portrayal of New York cop John McClane helped reshape the action genre by making the hero more vulnerable, sardonic, and convincingly human.

Willis built a notably varied filmography beyond Die Hard, moving between action, drama, sci-fi, and dark comedy. Key films include The Last Boy Scout, Pulp Fiction, 12 Monkeys, The Fifth Element, Armageddon, Unbreakable, and The Sixth Sense, showing an ability to shift from blockbuster spectacle to character-driven work. In the 2010s he appeared in a large number of films, including both studio projects and smaller action thrillers, remaining a familiar presence on screen across decades.

In 2022 his family announced that he would be stepping away from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia, and in 2023 they said he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. He is widely celebrated for a career filled with iconic roles, and for bringing a grounded, everyman edge to some of modern cinemaโ€™s biggest blockbusters.
