Editorial Methodology

That Film Spot documents real filming locations through manual research, location visits, screen comparison and original photography.

The purpose of the site is to connect films and television series with the real places used on screen. Each location page is written to help readers understand where a scene was filmed, how the place appears in the production, and how the real-world location relates to what is seen on screen.

Locations are selected and researched manually. Some are identified through personal visits and original photography, while others are researched through maps, production information, visible screen details, public records, interviews, location databases, behind-the-scenes material and other available sources. Whenever possible, a location is connected to a specific scene, sequence or on-screen use rather than only listed as a general filming place.

Accuracy is important, but filming locations can sometimes be difficult to verify. Productions may use altered geography, edited street layouts, studio interiors, doubled locations or places that have changed significantly since filming. In these cases, That Film Spot aims to describe the location as clearly and carefully as possible without overstating what is known.

Each published location page is reviewed manually before publication. The text is written to be useful rather than exhaustive: the focus is on the real place, its connection to film or television, and the scene or scenes filmed there. Background information is included when it helps explain the location, but the site avoids unnecessary filler.

Original location photographs are used where available to show how the place looks in the real world. Many locations on That Film Spot have been visited and photographed by the site. Screen references may be used where they help document or explain a filming location, but the main purpose of the site is to identify and document real places, not to reproduce film or television artwork.

Maps, nearby locations, film pages, city pages and country pages are used as navigation tools. They help readers explore the archive from different directions, but they do not replace editorial research. The core content of That Film Spot is the documentation of individual filming locations and their use on screen.

That Film Spot is researched, written and maintained by Runar Pettersen, a Norway-based writer, photographer and filming-location enthusiast. The project grew out of a personal interest in visiting filming locations, recognising real places on screen, and documenting them in a way that is useful for other fans, travellers and researchers.

Corrections and additional information are welcome. If a location is wrong, incomplete or could be described more accurately, readers are encouraged to get in touch with the page URL and relevant details. Corrections are reviewed manually and pages may be updated when better information becomes available.
