Interview with the Vampire (1994) is an American gothic horror drama directed by Neil Jordan, based on Anne Riceโ€™s 1976 novel “Interview with the Vampire”. The film is structured around the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac, played by Brad Pitt, who tells his life story to journalist Daniel Molloy in a San Francisco hotel room. His account begins in 18th-century Louisiana, where he is turned into a vampire by Lestat de Lioncourt, played by Tom Cruise, and continues through New Orleans, Europe and Paris as Louis struggles with immortality, guilt, bloodlust and his complicated bond with Lestat. Kirsten Dunst plays Claudia, the child vampire whose existence becomes central to the filmโ€™s tragedy, while Antonio Banderas appears as Armand. The film combines period drama, horror and melancholy romance, using lavish production design and nocturnal atmosphere to turn Riceโ€™s vampire mythology into one of the most visually distinctive gothic films of the 1990s.

Interview with the Vampire was filmed across Louisiana, California, England and France, with New Orleans and the surrounding plantation country giving the film its strongest historical identity. Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie was used as Louis de Pointe du Lacโ€™s estate, giving the early Louisiana scenes their grand avenue of oaks and antebellum setting. Destrehan Plantation, west of New Orleans, was also used for plantation interiors, while Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 in New Orleans appears in the filmโ€™s cemetery material. San Francisco frames the story through Daniel Molloyโ€™s interview with Louis, with the fictional St. Martin Hotel connected to Market Street at Taylor Street. The filmโ€™s Paris material combines real French locations with British studio work: Palais-Royal and Palais Garnier appear in Paris, while the Theatre of the Vampires interiors were created at Pinewood Studios in England. Additional London-area locations, including the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley, were used for specific scenes. The result is a film with a broad gothic geography: Louisiana plantations and New Orleans cemeteries establish Louisโ€™ origins, San Francisco provides the modern interview frame, and Paris becomes the old-world vampire stage where performance, decadence and death merge.
