Dexter: Original Sin is a 2024–2025 crime drama prequel to Dexter, created by Clyde Phillips. Set in 1991, it follows a young Dexter Morgan, played by Patrick Gibson, as he begins a forensics internship at Miami Metro and takes his first steps toward becoming the serial killer guided by Harry Morgan’s code. Christian Slater plays Harry, while Molly Brown plays Debra Morgan, with Michael C. Hall returning as Dexter’s inner voice. The series works as an origin story for both Dexter’s method and his emotional detachment, showing the early formation of his double life inside the same Miami police world that later defines the original series.
Although Dexter: Original Sin is set in Miami, the production follows the same basic pattern as the original Dexter by combining real South Florida material with California stand-ins. Filming began in Miami in June 2024, with locations such as Haulover Park and the Haulover Inlet area helping anchor the series in the real Miami landscape. After that, much of the shoot moved to Los Angeles and Long Beach, where residential streets, police-related locations, suburban houses and studio interiors were used to recreate 1990s Miami. CBS Radford Studios in Studio City handled many interior scenes, while Los Angeles and Long Beach provided many of the exterior spaces dressed to match South Florida. This gives the series a familiar Dexter-style geography: the story belongs to Miami, with its heat, water, police culture and bright surfaces, but much of that world is carefully reconstructed through Southern California locations.
City National Bank Building in Long Beach is used as the exterior of Miami Metro Police headquarters. The building appears repeatedly whenever the series returns to the police department where Harry Morgan works and where the young Dexter begins to move closer to the world of crime investigation. Although the story is set in Miami, the Long Beach location gives the headquarters a believable coastal-city look without needing to show much of the surrounding area.
Family Arcade LA appears in episode 9, “Blood Drive”. Dexter lures Captain Aaron Spencer to the arcade and has already transformed the location into one of his prepared kill rooms. The machines and parts of the interior are covered in plastic, turning the bright, playful arcade into something cold and controlled. Spencer is also wrapped in plastic while Dexter prepares to kill him, but Dexter Morgan has a second though after talking with Spencer.

Family Arcade LA
In Dexter: Original Sin, Family Arcade LA appears in episode 9, Blood Drive. Dexter lures Captain Spencer to the arcade, transforming it into a kill room.
