Sam Raimi (born 23 October 1959) is an American director, producer, and screenwriter known for a kinetic visual style that blends horror, comedy, and comic-book spectacle. He broke through with the ultra-low-budget cult classic and masterpiece The Evil Dead (1981), made with longtime collaborators including actor Bruce Campbell, and built the franchise into a defining piece of horror history with Evil Dead II (1987) and Army of Darkness (1992). Raimiโ€™s filmmaking is often recognised for inventive camera movement, slapstick energy, and a love of genre traditions.

He became a major mainstream director with the Spider-Man trilogy (2002โ€“2007), which helped set the template for modern superhero cinema while still reflecting his playful, character-driven approach. Beyond directing, Raimi is also a prolific producer through projects in horror and thriller, including films connected to the Evil Dead universe, and he has continued working across big studio and genre filmmaking, including returning to Marvel with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022).
