Based on a True Story (2023–2024) is an American dark comedy thriller series created by Craig Rosenberg, starring Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina and Tom Bateman. The series follows Ava and Nathan Bartlett, a struggling Los Angeles couple who become entangled with a serial killer and decide to turn the situation into a true-crime podcast. The show mixes crime, satire and domestic comedy, using the true-crime boom as the backdrop for a story about desperation, ambition and moral collapse. The first season premiered on Peacock in 2023, followed by a second season in 2024.
The series was filmed in Los Angeles, California, where the story is also set.
