Crispin Glover (born 20 April 1964) is an American actor, filmmaker, and writer known for intensely idiosyncratic performances and an unconventional career that has often favoured unusual, character-driven projects over mainstream paths. He gained early recognition in the 1980s with roles in films such as Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), and became widely known as George McFly in Back to the Future (1985), where his nervous energy and physical specificity helped define the character. Crispin Glover did not return as George McFly in Back to the Future Part II (1989) due to a combination of creative disagreements, contract disputes over salary, and tensions with filmmakers regarding the first film’s ending.

Glover is particularly associated with eccentric and unsettling roles, including performances in Riverโ€™s Edge (1986), Wild at Heart (1990), Dead Man (1995), and as the Thin Man in Charlieโ€™s Angels (2000). He has also appeared in larger fantasy projects, notably as the Hatter in Alice in Wonderland (2010) and its sequel. Beyond acting, he has developed a parallel career as a filmmaker, directing and producing highly experimental features such as What Is It? and It Is Fine! Everything Is Fine., reflecting his long-standing interest in outsider art and provocative storytelling. He has also written books, performed live spoken-word and music events, and remains known as a singular figure in modern cinemaโ€”an artist whose work is defined by risk, oddity, and a deliberate refusal to be easily categorised.
