The Juror is a 1996 legal thriller directed by Brian Gibson and based on George Dawes Green’s novel. Demi Moore plays Annie Laird, a sculptor and single mother who is selected for jury duty in a major Mafia trial, only to be terrorised by a man known as “The Teacher,” played by Alec Baldwin, who orders her to force an acquittal if she wants her son to stay alive. The film turns a courtroom premise into a psychological thriller built around intimidation, manipulation and the collapse of ordinary life under criminal pressure.

The film is closely tied to New York and the wider New York region, with Manhattan providing some of its most recognisable urban settings while surrounding parts of New York State and nearby New Jersey were also used to broaden its world. Manhattan locations include SoHo, with scenes filmed around Greene Street and West Houston Street, while additional production took place in Rye, South Salem and Croton Gorge Park in Westchester County. The film also used Palisades Interstate Park in Fort Lee, New Jersey, Harriman State Park, and Metepec in Morelos, Mexico. As a result, the film builds its atmosphere from a mix of dense Manhattan streets, affluent suburban environments, wooded outskirts and more isolated exterior locations, which suits a story that moves between public institutions, private fear and the threat of violence spreading into every part of Annie’s life.
